Questions And Answers

Why do people have storm doors?
People have storm doors for warmer weather, to let the fresh air in, while still keeping the bugs out. They have a storm door for the harsher weather, to protect their home and the main exterior door.
How do I measure for a storm door?
You measure for a storm door by first measuring the height from the exterior-top trim’s underside to the sill. Then, you measure width from the top, center, to the bottom of your door’s opening. The smallest measurement should be used when placing an order for a new storm door.
Is it necessary to have a storm door?
No, a storm door isn't a necessity. However, a storm door can benefit you greatly. It helps to provide protection to your main, more costly, entry door. Often these doors have screens to allow you the pleasure of being able to circulate fresh air. They are certainly worth the investment.
What is a storm door closer?
A storm door closer is great to have. It will close your door for you, after you have opened it. This keeps the bugs, pests and dirt out of your home and keeps your home safer too.
How do you measure a doorway for a storm door?
Measure from the sill to the exterior trim underside, located at the top of your door. Now you need to measure the width. Do this at the bottom, the center of the door, and at the top. Use the shortest width measurement that you come up with.
what does a sweep for a storm door do?
A sweep for a storm door can do a few things for you. First, it can make your home more energy efficient. Second, it can keep insects and pests out of your home. Third, it can keep dirt out of your home too.
How do you determine the swing of a storm door?
The swing of a storm door is not too difficult to determine. If you face back near the door’s hinge jamb and your right hand is near your doorknob, it’s a right swing. When facing the same direction and your left hand is near the doorknob, it’s a left swing.
What are the different kinds of storm doors?
There are three main types when it comes to storm doors. You have the ventilating doors, full-view doors, as well as retractable screen doors. Each door is slightly different but they all offer the same basic benefits by allowing for circulation of air without allowing insects to enter your home.
Do Storm doors help with insulation?
Yes, storm doors do help with insulation. They can save you energy all year because they provide another insulating layer for your home. This prevents loss of heat in colder weather and loss of cooler air from your home in hotter weather.
Is steel the best material for a storm door?
You will find that steel could be the best material for a storm door. This material is very durable, low-maintenance and it is stronger than most other materials as well.

How To Replace Storm Door Handle

Having a storm door is a great idea. If you already have one on your home, it is important to keep an eye on the handle. This part of these doors often breaks quicker than other parts of the door. The best thing to do if you are having issues with your current handle is to put in a whole new storm door handle. This is a very simple project and doesn’t take very long either.

Average Priced Storm Doors

Many homeowners like the idea of having a storm door, but they don’t want to spend a fortune on higher-end models. Luckily, there are plenty of average-priced storm doors to choose from, making it easy to find an option that meets your needs and aesthetic preferences. . A full view storm door features the most glass, usually encompassing the vast majority of the door’s surface. Mid-view variants are still mainly glass, though approximately the lower quarter of the door is comprised of the frame material. A high view storm door has glass on the upper half and solid material on the lower portion. Which option is right for you may depend on the amount of traffic through the door, or whether people, pets or objects may contact the lower portion of the door. read more

Classic Storm Doors

When you think of classic storm doors, you might think first of the classic screen door, which always seem to be banging in the wind in old movies. While the terms are often used interchangeably, there are subtle and not-so-subtle differences between the two. For example, while a screen door is a self-explanatory simple door with a screen, a storm door is more sophisticated. Either choice, classic screen door or classic storm door, could be appropriate for your home, depending on what you're looking for. But if you want the best of both worlds,  you should choose a classic storm door. read more
