How To Install Flashing Around A Door

It is important to flash the outer windows and the doors of your home. This protects your home from getting rain water inside. Flashing around a door keeps the area dry and keeps the building in the best shape possible. Without any flashing around the door, water can intrude the home which can lead to damage from the moisture. Mold can get into your home and the air quality indoors will be compromised without the flashing as well. The cost you will have if you don’t have flashing around the door could be quite substantial, especially if you have to start doing structural repairs to your home because of the water damage.

It is quite common for new construction areas to use flashing during the building process. However, many of the homes which are already built may not have this. It is important to remember two main things when doing flashing around a door. You want to use a water-resistant barrier such as house wrap. You should also use shingle-type membranes so the top portion hangs over the bottom part. This helps the water to drain away from your home or building.

Sometimes you can just install wrap and a drip cap. This type of flashing is done often for doors and windows. However, many building and manufacturer codes require more detailed flashing so the studs, sheathing and interior walls stay protected. Keep in mind that you must plan on how you are going to put flashing around the door before you just jump right into it. You need to use the right materials so that your home or building gets the best protection from any moisture.

Door Hinges

At some point in their lives, everyone has lived in a home that had doors that swung open with the help of hinges. There’s nothing quite like the traditional look of a door with hinges which you’ll find on both interior and exterior doors in homes and businesses. There’s also the fact that even though they may need more upkeep than other types of doors, hinged doors always win regarding being sturdy. While the wooden door itself needs more care to maintain it, the hinge may only need a little oil and tightening of the screws to keep it working well. It may come as a surprise to find out that there are in fact, many types of hinges that differ based on the type of door they are attached to. These small yet complex parts help in providing a flexible point which allows the door to swing in either one or two directions. Not only does it do this, but it also acts as a means of support that holds on to the weight of the door. While their size and location often allow them go unnoticed, they’re available in a wide range of styles and finishes for you to choose from. read more

Door Latch

When it comes to home remodeling, investigating the type of door latches you have must be considered for a couple of reasons. They are crucial to maintaining your household security as well as all your valuables, but more than that, they keep families safe from harm. It’s best to change door latches whenever it’s time for home renovation. Door latches can get old over time and if they’re not properly maintained, they can fall prey to excessive wear. In addition, there are also dust and climate factors such as humidity and temperature to look out for because these can also affect the lifespan of a typical door latch. These conditions make it important to change your door latch because, while it’s better to be safe than sorry, in many cases a new one will bring an updated product using current styles and materials, however traditional styles are still readily available. Each type of latch requires different designs or materials, which is why you don’t have to worry about one not being adaptable to your door. Whether you currently have a Drive-In Latch, one with Round Corners, or one with Square Corners, getting a replacement latch is easy because all types are available to you. For this reason, home owners should be sure to know the kind of latch already installed on your door so that you can get replacements. read more
