How To Install Hinges On A New Door

Door hinges play a crucial role in your daily life; they provide support to all of your doors. Door hinges, especially on exterior doors, are usually the first line of protection and safety for your family. Inside your house, they provide privacy to your family members. Installing hinges on a new door is a skill that can be easily mastered and can prove to be invaluable for you as a homeowner, especially if you enjoy D.I.Y. projects.

The majority of door hinges are recessed, or surface mounted. It is also likely that you will come across combination models that are partly surface mounted and partly recessed. It is important to start with accurate and precise measurements and always use tools and materials that will ensure superior results.

In case you are hanging a new door on an old frame, you will have to cut fresh hinges on your door carefully. New doors, also called door blanks, feature flat and smooth sides, and do not have any hinge locations. This design will allow you the convenience of placing the hinges where you like on your door so that it matches your existing frame. You could save plenty of money when building or remodeling your home by buying door blanks and cut the hinge mortise on your own. You can do this easily with a chisel and hammer.

How To Make Attic Door

If you don’t have much space inside of your home, which happens to just about everyone, it is time to do something about that. You need a storage solution that might just be easier than you thought. Just about every house has a little attic area. Generally, it isn’t cooled or heated and doesn’t have much space for you to move around but you can store some things in it such as luggage, decorations, out of season clothing and more.

However, you need an easy access to your attic area and by learning how to make an attic door, you will have your solution. If you already have an older staircase to your attic area, these may be a bit dangerous. By following the steps here, you can make your attic door bigger and easier to get through. You will only need to enlarge the doorway, put it an easier staircase and some steel cables. There will even be a handrail so it is safer as well.

Interior Bifold Doors

Ok, so you’re walking through your home or office and see some doors on closets or rooms that might need to be replaced soon because these are either looking bad, or you’re tired of how they open and close. One of the types of doors you could have in your home are the interior bifold doors. These are the types of doors that include two narrow and tall sections. They are connected by using hinges. They hang on a track that is installed in the door way. When you are opening these doors, they fold together instead of swinging out, so they are completely out of your way along the edges of the door frame. These are some of the kinds of interior bifold doors. Consider how much space you must allocate to the typical hinged door that has to swing toward or away from you when you open it. With bifold doors, you won’t have to worry about that any longer. You can choose which kind would be best for the rooms in your home once you learn more about each of these interior bifold doors. read more

Solid Wood Interior Doors

Building new or remodeling a home always means you have many choices to make that may stress the budget. While doors made of other materials can be cheaper, sometimes you get what you pay for—a cheap door. That can be an okay temporary solution, but if you want a door that will last, you want a solid wood interior door. Using solid wood interior doors will ensure you have the beauty of wood that matches other wood in your home. You are able to let the natural grain show through or have a specific color scheme throughout. Of course, one or more of these benefits may be of no interest to you. Perhaps, for example, you're not interested in selling your house any time soon, so you couldn't care less about the resale value. That doesn't mean that solid wood interior doors can't still have value for you. They'll save you money, for instance, when you don't have to replace them for years. Whatever you're looking for in interior doors, you can likely find in solid wood. read more
