If your door doesn’t stay in place when you leave it open, sticks when shut, or the doorknob or deadbolt don’t align properly anymore, you may have a sagging door.

A sagging door is often an alignment issue. While this sounds difficult to fix, the process of getting everything lined up again can actually be very simple. In fact, depending on the cause, you might be able to tackle the repair in mere minutes!

These instructions will walk you through steps to correct the issue, starting with the simplest solution.

a classic hinge pin door stop

How To Install Hinge Pin Door Stop

No one wants holes or nicks their walls. We all want the cleanest looking walls we can, but everyone has had a door open too far and too hard. This often results in damage, and it obviously is not possible to patch and paint every time this happens. The easiest and most efficient option is to install a door stop. If you have lightweight interior doors, the perfect solution is a pin door stop. You would probably need a fixed post stop for any heavier doors, as the pin door stops are intended for only lightweight doors. However, if this is an option for you, they are very simple and inexpensive to install, and they are available at most hardware stores as well as online.

Person Installing A Prehung Interior Door

How To Install Interior Prehung Doors

Doors are precision instruments and should consistently and easily snap into their latch, clear their jamb, and swing almost effortlessly on their hinges. The fine and precise tolerances required to achieve this level of performance explains why installing a pre-hung interior door is often deemed a true measure of a carpenter’s skill.

A pre-hung door simplifies and expedites the installation process, but let me tell you that the term pre-hung is actually a misnomer. The door and jambs need to be carefully adjusted and calibrated to account for any shortcomings in a wall’s frame.

The door is already attached to the frame and typically comes with all of the relevant hardware, including knobs and hinges, making it a one-stop shop. An interior prehung glass door is a standard variation of any interior door, but it features glass panes in the construction. One of the benefits of choosing an interior prehung glass door is that the panes allow light to transfer between two rooms. This is especially helpful if a particular room doesn’t have its own window, such as a closet, and the lighting in the space is minimal. read more
