The Scene Pavilion, Cleveland, OH June 21, 2003 |
|
I recently had the extreme privilege of seeing the Doors at The Scene
Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. As a long time avid Doors fanatic, I was a
little leery, beforehand, about Ian Astbury filling Jim's shoes. After all,
Jim is and always will be in a class by himself. However, I can honestly
say Ian did not let down the thousands of screaming fans witnessing the
beauty of Doors music before their eyes.
Even after all these years, Ray and Robby never sounded better. With Ian's dramatic display added to the mystical lyrics, the entire concert had all of us screaming for more. Fellow Doors fans around me agreed that with his back turned to us and standing in the shadows of the stage lighting, Ian's silhouette made all of us mesmerized in awe over the distinct resemblance to "The Lizard King" himself. The band's performance had The Scene Pavilion on their feet for the entire two and one-half hours. Every chord off Robby's guitar, every key Ray touched, every motion Ian made, had every fan at that show wanting that evening to last forever. The band graciously gave us two lengthy encores, which included "Soul Kitchen," as their final song of the evening. The Doors pulled out all the stops giving every fan there what they truly hoped to see. Not one person left that show disappointed. It was definitely the hottest ticket in Cleveland.
