The 21st Century Doors:
Scene Pavilion,
Cleveland, OH
June 21, 2003

by Brent Lohr

The Doors 21st Century rocked The Scene Pavilion in Cleveland's Flats district on Saturday, June 21st. The band took the stage about 8:30 p.m. And instantly got the crowd going with "Roadhouse Blues." Ian Astbury Wasted no time in capturing the energy and aura of Jim Morrison and Transmitting it to the audience which stood from the opening song to the last of two encores.

Ray settled in behind the organ wearing a casual safari-type coat while Robby was prepared for war in camouflaged army fatigues. Ian, in Jim Morrison-like fashion, donned a black shirt and blue jeans. One point of interest to this concert-goer was the addition of a bass player to the mix, freeing Manzarek to concentrate on his keyboard.

The band rocked the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame city with Doors' classics such as "Break on Through," "When the Music's Over," "Moonlight Drive," "Five To One," "Wild Child," "Spanish Caravan," "People Are Strange," "Back Door Man," "Maggie M'Gill" and "Whiskey Bar" before ending the set with a rousing rendition of "L.A. Woman." The audience wouldn't leave their unused seats until The Doors came back on stage for the two encores. The first encore included "Riders On The Storm" and "Light My Fire." The second finished the night with "Soul Kitchen." The first set did include the new song "Cops Talk" which reminded this audience member of "Riders on the Storm" a little too much.

All in all, The Doors 21st Century did not disappoint. They rocked Cleveland for almost three hours. Their energy and enthusiasm spilled out into the crowd leaving little doubt that the spirit of Jim Morrison is alive and well and still kicking ass.
