The 21st Century Doors:
Oakdale Theater,
Wallingford, CT
April 28, 2003

by Kevin F. Flaherty

I am from Seymour, CT and am now 52 years old. I was fortunate enough to see The Doors twice when Jim was alive. I saw The Doors at the Oakdale Theater in late Summer of1967 and the group that opened up for them was the Wild Weeds from Hartford, CT. They had some minor hits with their songs, 'No Good To Cry' and 'I'm Dreaming'. Big Al Anderson was their lead singer and he later hooked up with NRBQ.

I also saw The Doors at the New Haven Arena some 4 months later. Te Arena was on the corner of Grove Street and Orange. The old New Haven Blades Hockey team of the old AHL used to play there. The thing I remember most about that concert was they came on late and you know the rest.... The arena only held about 3,200 people. Folding chairs were thrown all over the place on the crowd's way out and I remember many glass doors at the entrance and exits were smashed out. The next time I went to school at Seymour High, one of my friends said that he had taken another exit and saw Jim Morrison being thrown in the back of a New Haven Police vehicle.

This last times I saw The Doors (of the 21st Century) were at the Oakdale Theater again in April 2003 and again at the Holmdale Theater in August of 2003. I enjoyed all The Doors shows I've seen adn they are still my facorite group to this day. One of my all time favortite Doors songs is one you don't hear too often... 'Who Scared You'. Hope you have enjoyed my little trip down memory lane! Keep up the good work! Till next time...
