The 21st Century Doors:
Oakdale Theater,

I was at The Doors 21st Century show at the Oakdale in Conn. Monday night. Awesome doesn't even come close to how excellent it was. I knew The Doors would be great but the show was a trip clocked in at 2 hours 30 minutes with every Doors song I wanted to hear except “The End”! I've been to about 400 or more concerts in my 45 years and this show ranks as one of the best I’ve seen if not the best!! Zep, The Stones, The Who—all in their prime. Ian did a brilliant job on vocals, and Ray and Robby were unbelievable. Jim would have been pleased if he heard this brilliant show!

First off, “Roadhouse Blues” had the place up and dancing and singing. Then we heard all the classics: “When the Music’s Over,” “Break On Through,” “Back Door Man” (a show-stopping “Back Door Man”), “Five To One” (over the top), “L.A. Woman” (awesome), “Moonlight Drive,” “Spanish Caravan.” Also two new songs, “Cops Talk,” and “American Express. “Cops Talk” sounded just like an old Doors song. Robby Krieger was awesome on guitar throughout the night. This was followed by unplugged versions of “Crystal Ship,” and “People Are Strange.” The highlight of the night was “Light My Fire”--hypnotic to say the least! Then a brilliant, haunting version of “Riders On The Storm.” The whole place was moving and dancing as if we were back in the 60s. Pure heaven! The second encore was “Peace Frog.” 21 songs.

I never got to see the original Doors but at times this Doors seemed even more powerful if you can believe that! I really give credit to Ian Astbury, Angelo Barbera, Ty Dennis; all were outstanding and tight throughout the night. Ian, at times, was just like Jim on stage--dancing, moving and sounding like Jim Morrison. And Mr. Manzarek! What can one say but Brilliant! All night on organ. We can only hope The Doors 21st Century get by the legal problems and keep touring and making new music. The Doors were and still are one of the giants of classic rock.
