The 21st Century Doors:
Dodge Theatre,
Phoenix, AZ
March 26, 2003

by Tim Nelson

The March 26 performance at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix by The Doors 21st Century was nothing less than magical. The theatre was Packed (capacity 5000) and from my fifth row seat looking back would be hard pressed to find an empty seat. There was no opening act, showtime was 7:30 but the lights dimmed at 8:01. We heard the now familiar “Carmina Burana”and after a few minutes Ray appeared from the left of the stage. Then we saw Ty, then Robby, Angelo and Ian followed: LADIES & GENTLEMEN, THE DOORS!!

The crowd went into a frenzy and the band began to play “Roadhouse Blues.” We stood up and did not sit down for the entire show. I even managed make it on stage during the final encore along with approximately 40 others singing and dancing. What a great time. It was PURE ROCK & ROLL!! This was my third show (Fontana, Hollywood and now Phoenix). WOW! It's all been great. A MUST SEE SHOW!! The only negative was uptight security (a few looked like they may have been around in 1968 the last time The DOORS were in town). They seemed to be very nervous at the end, including turning the house lights on after “Maggie M’Gill” with hopes to end the show, but Ray appeared and told all of us, We've got more to play! The band returned and played a rowdy “Soul Kitchen” with lots of help from the crowd. TY gave me his set list (which included “Peace Frog” as an encore but was not played). I was able to meet Ian after the show in the backstage hallway, before security booted me?? Now I've met the entire band. VERY COOL!! WHEN THE DOORS COME TO YOUR TOWN, GO HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE MUSIC.
