Jim Morrison's 3rd Poetry Book:

'An American Prayer' by Jim Morrison

'An American Prayer' by Jim Morrison
The third and final book of Morrison's privately published poetry printed in the Summer of 1970. One of only 500 copies printed and paid for by Jim Morrison. I have taken the photod (below) in very unflattering light so you can see every flaw on the book. The binding is very tight and has seems to have never even been cracked open. Because of this, it was difficult to take photos of the insides which are perfect. The lines on the cover are not scratches, but imprints in the laminate of the cover - they have probably been there since the books were made. There is a small chip in the lower left corner on the back side. Other than this, the book is as close to perfect as can be. Conservatively I would rate the condition as Exc+ ...or a 9.5/10. It is a very beautiful book - Definite investment quality.

Jim Morrison Poetry Collection:

We have been very fortunate to consign a complete collection of Jim Morrison's poetry with a very interesting provenance! For those of you who have Frank Lisciandro's highly recommended book, 'Morrison: A Feast of Friends' you wont want to skip the chapter titled, 'Red Lights'. It is recollections of Jim Morrison from Ginny Ganahl. Ginny worked at The Doors office from Nov. 1968 till later in the year of 1969 as their first secretary. During this time, she helped establish the inner workings of the new Doors office at 8512 Santa Monica Blvd and was invaluable to Jim Morrison as he self published the first two of his three poetry books. As a token of his appreciation for her help, Jim gave Ginny copies of the books - even taking time to inscribe 'The New Creatures' to her.
Sadly Ginny has passed on. Her family is seeking good homes for the books that were amongst her most prized of possessions.

'The Lords: Notes On Vision' by Jim Morrison

'The Lords: Notes On Vision' by Jim Morrison
The first privately published poetry book printed in the Spring of 1969 by Western Lithographers. One of only 100 copies printed and paid for by Jim Morrison. Extremely rare! This copy was given to Doors secretary, Ginny Ganahl by Jim Morrison as she assisted him at the time as he worked on his poetry books. The nature of the envelope with the loose pages makes these self destruct with time. This one has wear, but just for comparison....A recent un-signed copy in mint condition sold for $12,000. This copy will come with a letter of provenance from the current owner attesting to it's background.
This copy includes the three pages of additional poetry that are NOT included in the original Simon & Schuster books and all subscequent reprints (please see scans below). It is missing one page of poetry that starts off, "Cinema has evolved...". As reported in the Strange Days Newsletter, this missing page was probably the result of a printer error. A xerox copy of this missing page from another copy of 'The Lords' that I have had previously will be included. Cond: VG

'The New Creatures' by Jim Morrison

'The New Creatures' by Jim Morrison
SIGNED BY JIM MORRISON
The second of Morrison's privately published poetry books printed in late Spring of 1969 by Western Lithographers. One of only 100 copies printed and paid for by Jim Morrison. Another extremely rare book which was also given to Ginny Ganahl by Jim Morrison and is signed by Jim on the inside front cover, "Ginny, Jim". I have only seen two signatures like this where Jim signed only his first name - This was not typical and was only done for his closest friends. This copy is not perfect - it does have some water spotting on the front cover - See photos on webpage for more details. This will come with our Doors Collectors Magazine Certificate of Authenticity and Guarantee plus a letter of provenance from the current owner. Cond: Exc-

'Ode to LA while thinking of Brian Jones, Deceased' Poem by Jim Morrison

'Ode to LA while thinking of Brian Jones, Deceased' Poem by Jim Morrison
Jim Morrison paid all printing costs to share his feelings and passion about recently deceased Brian Jones through his love of poetry. This was Jim's own tribute to Brian - his own way of saying goodbye to the fallen Rolling Stone who he had admired so much. Jim sought to share these feelings with those who came to see The Doors at the Aquarious Theater concerts on July 21st & 22nd. Unfortunately to his chagrin, many fans trashed their gift without even reading it. Many concert goers who were at these shows attest that these printed sheets littered the floor and filled almost every trash bin after the show. In 1969, Doors fans didn't want to read something from Jim Morrison the Poet...they wanted to hear Jim Morrison the Rock Star. This small sheet of paper is a private edition of Morrison's poetry - probably the most under-rated and un-appreciated piece he ever printed. In the past 18 years of working with Doors / Morrison memorabilia, I have seen fewer copies of this come up for sale than I have copies of 'The Lords' which cost several thousand dollars. This poem comes with a letter of provenance from the current owner. The condition of this copy is Excellent.

1967 '16 Magazine' GeeGee Award to Jim Morrison for Best LP (The Doors)

1967 '16 Magazine' GeeGee Award to Jim Morrison for Best LP (The Doors)
Gloria Stavers and 16 Magazine basically invented rock and pop-culture journalism as we know it today," posted someone who should know, music critic emeritus Dave Marsh, in his intro to 1997's Who's Your Fave Rave?, the 40th anniversary book written by former 16 editors Randi Reisfeld and Danny Fields. What Marsh doesn't say is that Stavers basically also invented the female rock and pop-culture journalist. From the mid-1960s on, Stavers (known as GeeGee) sat at the top of her game, the most powerful editor of a music publication selling more than a million copies monthly, the highest-profile female music journalist who by all accounts slept with select subjects in the magazine like Jim Morrison, Mitch Ryder, and even Mickey Mantle.
Subsequent features in 16 such as "At Home With the Rolling Stones" offered an intimacy rarely seen in newsstand interviews of the time and was doubtless arranged to give Brian Jones enough time to put away the hookah and hashish before welcoming 13-year-old girls to his bachelor lair. How much more subversive could 16 get?
As editor of 16 for nearly 20 years, Stavers shaped more musical careers than any other woman of her day. As a writer of popular culture, she was unparalleled. Once Stavers left 16 Magazine in 1975, reading and writing about rock & roll changed forever. Gloria died of lung cancer in 1983.
In 1967 when Gloria Stavers (and The Doors) were both at the top of their game, she awarded The Doors first album her coveted GeeGee award for best album of the year. Of course I wasn't there when the award arrived in the mail so I can't say this was how it went down, but I can only imagine... Jim looked half cocked at the award, smirked, then handed it off to his secretary, Ginny Ganahl telling her to file it in the round file. Ginny instead kept the award and cherished it for years to come. Now, the actual same award that Jim Morrison gave to Ginny Ganahl is for sale.
How incredible is it to think this award's history included Jim Morrison handling it? This tarnished award comes with a certificate of authenticity from us, a letter of provenance from Ginny's brother, and a rock and roll history that will never happen again. Condition is only Exc- the wood needs to be reconditioned and the brass needs to be polished. The new owner can fo this if he desires. One can buy all sorts of memorabilia ... but this isn't a limited edition of 500 or even of 100...it's a limited edition of only one that was presented to Jim Morrison, himself.

The Official Doors / Morrison Silver Coin Set

Official Doors / Morrison Silver Coin Set
To many this coin is a myth. It's been rumored to have existed, but not many know the entire story. Danny Sugerman recounted the real story to me years ago: He said idea for the coin was proposed to Ray and Robby at a Doors meeting in 1991 and both loved the idea - they signed the permission papers for the limited edition set to be made (and to get their royalty fee) But for some reason John didn't make it to this particular meeting and didn't know anything about the coins. With the confusion surrounding the horrible Oliver Stoned film coming out, someone screwed up and production on the coins began without John's needed approval. When Densmore found out about the coins and disliked the idea, production immediately was halted and all coins made previous to this were recalled and destroyed. None were supposedly ever sold. But somehow a few slipped out - this is one of a few coins that still exists today.
As you can see from the photo link below, this is a very classy item and much thought went into the embossed suede presentation case, the booklet / sticker enclosures as well as the design of the sealed mint condition coin which bares the likeness of Morrison on one side and the official Doors logo on the other. The unusually rare coin is one troy ounce of .999 fine silver but worth it's weight in gold to the right lucky Doors fan. Cond: M.

The Official Doors / Morrison Silver Coin Proof

Official Doors / Morrison Silver Coin Proof
What a find! Only a handful of these proofs exist thanks to an alert coin press operator / Doors fan who saved a handful of proofs for the above coin, as the production run was getting underway. Yes! These ARE the same coin that was in the original rare sets (as seen above), except these lack an edition number engraved on them. Same troy ounce of .999 fine silver with a spectacular finish, only these leave some additional ounces in your wallet. Click below to see close ups of these rare silver proofs. Cond: M.

Rick & The Ravens Business Card

Rick & The Ravens Business Card
This card was given to a drummer in a band that played with Rick and the Ravens in 1964. He held on to it till the day I bought it from him. It has two pinholes in it where he had it tacked on his wall. It is a little yellowed everywhere except where the tack heads were. Everything is very clear and easy to read as you can see from the scan below. This is a very rare item and I have only seen one other that belonged to another one of the Ravens when we interviewed them for our Encyclopedia project. Cond: Exc

Ray Manzarek Senior Year Book - 1956 St. Rita High School

Ray Manzarek Senior Year Book - 1956 St. Rita High School
This is Ray's Senior Yearbook from the famous St. Rita High School! Of course it belonged to someone else who went to Ray's school (Not Ray) and has some signatures in it, but it's still in really great shape! Of all Ray's yearbooks, this is the most sought after because of the three Pre-Doors photos of Raymond Daniel Manczarek. Just check these scans out! Isn't Ray suave and deboner?! I've seen more Morrison yearbooks than I have of this one. Don't pass up your chance... Cond: Exc+
